Super Hero

today I transformed into a super hero
on my red bicycle racing your time of departure
you had left your ticket on my coffee table
and I told you I would be right there I told you I would be right there

and I handed you the ticket just before the doors closed
and the train pulled out of the station taking you with

it is barely six a.m. and I'm rarely awake at this hour
and the sky is so dramatic my eyes are twice their size
to grasp the circumference of what just happened
my hands clasping the bikes handles
my ribs embracing my breath from racing
birds are flying low
as if they are following me
birds are flying low
as if to steal my thoughts

I handed you the ticket just before the doors closed
and the train pulled out of the station taking you with

now I'm alone with the city and with everyone on their way
now I'm alone with my bicycle and its red red rusted
now I'm alone with my sense of speed and my superpowers
now I'm back home counting my knives and my silver dollars

I thought I would go back to bed after my good deed
but I couldn't sleep so instead I turned on the radio
they had captured the bear whose been plundering back yards
and they shot him shot him dead because he was such a threat
to quiet sundays and to rose gardens
to forest walks and to pink babies
to old ladies and to polished cars
and I keep thinking they shot my heart

I handed you the ticket just before the doors closed
and the train pulled out of the station taking you with
